Frequently Asked Questions

Do we get wet on the duck boat tour?

While we do splash into the Pacific Ocean, you will not get wet. You may, however, get a light spray depending upon the direction and strength of the wind.

What should we bring?

Guests are encouraged to bring sunscreen and water. Though the DUKW is shaded, guests will get some sunlight at various points along the route. And don't forget to bring your cameras and smartphones! There are many photo opportunities along the route.

Do we get to swim?

No. Guests are seated on the DUKW vehicle for the entire tour.

Can you pick up at my hotel?

No, but we have convenient pickup and drop-off points right in the Ala Wai Small Boat harbor, near the Hilton Hawaiian Village Lagoon.

How long is the tour?

No. The tour is approximately 90 minutes without stops along the route. Tour times may vary due to traffic patterns and construction.

Does my infant have to pay for a seat? Does an infant on my lap count as a passenger?

Infants ride free, but they do count as a passenger, even if they are seated on your lap. We are required by the United States Coast Guard to count every guest on board. When booking a seat for your infant, please select "infant" from the drop-down menu.

Where are the pick-up and drop-off points?

We pick up passengers at the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor, near the harbor master's office. A video with parking instructions and a map will be included in your confirmation email.

Is there parking? How much is it?

Convenient public parking is available in the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor. There are some free spaces available along the Hilton Hawaiian Village Lagoon, or paid parking is available for $1 an hour.

Do you have water and food on board?

At this time, we are not offering beverage or meal service. Guests are invited to bring their own water and snacks along for the tour.

Can I choose my seat?

Seating is first come first served unless you request early boarding. Early boarding is available for passengers that are mobility impaired. Please select the early boarding option when you book your seat.

Are the vehicles safe?

Yes. Our hydroterra vehicles are the latest and safest amphibious vehicles available and are certified by the United States Coast Guard. Each vehicle undergoes an extensive annual inspection by the USCG and the vehicles are road tested annually by the Hawaii Department of Transportation. Infant and child life vests are provided on board and stored underneath each seat. Each Honu Hawaii Captain carries a dual DOT and USCG commercial license.

Do you offer group discounts?

Yes, please view our booking page for more details.

The harbor is big. How do I find you?

A video with parking instructions and a map will be included in your confirmation email.

Are pets allowed on the Honu?

Only service animals are permitted. Please select  "service animal" from the drop-down menu when booking.

Do you offer priority boarding?

Yes, we offer priority boarding for anyone that is mobility impaired. We can accommodate one wheelchair per cruise.  If you plan on bringing a wheelchair, please select this option from the drop-down menu when booking.

Is there a place to store my child's stroller?

Yes, one of our crew members will store your stroller during the tour.

What is your cancellation policy?

Honu Hawaii offers hassle-free cancellations for a full refund up to 48 hours before departure time. Guests will be offered a credit for a later date if canceling within the 48 hours of their tour.

What happens during severe weather?

Honu Hawaii Land and Sea Tour runs rain or shine. However, we may be forced to cancel either the water portion or the entire tour itself under severe weather conditions. If Honu Hawaii is unable to provide the water portion of the tour, guests will receive a 50% refund. If Honu Hawaii is forced to cancel the entire tour, guests will receive a full refund. Cancellations are done at the discretion of the Captain based on the current weather conditions at the time of the tour.
